My Artist Statement

My artistic product represents characters created for a quest or to tell a story. They are designed to conquer demanding situations and use their might and intelligence in favor or against whatever situation they engage. Creating, inspiring, believing, and loving are essential to my creative process.  However, there are also some fragments of fear, pain, persecution, and fantasy here and there.

These beings must undergo several transformations during their early stages of development and may, sadly, even perish as they change.  It is risky, as they may not fully develop into what they should have been.  Others conquer their fate, becoming more than just an idea.  They become characters, beings with a purpose. The purpose itself depends on how I feel at the moment. I become the creator, a minor god deciding between life and death in my creative world. A mixture of different cultures, including mine, are essential factors in this journey.

Inspiration comes from ideas that spontaneously appear in my imagination, using them as raw materials during my process of self-expression.  I am also fully capable of interpreting, understanding, and transferring the ideas of others into reality, helping them express their ideas in a concrete form. My creativity is also influenced by the desire to have fun during the process.

I enjoy sketching and using pencil on paper during my creative process. Images are then transferred into digital form through scanning and developed further through my eyes and hands until they reach maturity. Other times, they are delivered directly into the digital world or may remain on paper.

My Bio

Asenith M. Padilla has a multicultural Caribbean upbringing, which defines the way in which she sees the world.  A native Puertorrican and resident of the San Juan Metropolitan area, she finds fascinating the similarities and differences between the peoples of the Caribbean Region.

Ms. Padilla is a visual artist specializing in character design, concept art, and illustration.  Additionally, she works freelance, creating characters for games, blogs, and books. She also had the honor of featuring art pieces in Atlantic University’s Gallery exhibitions and has had pieces published in the Atlantic University College Catalogue as part of the general layout. Last summer she was invited to participate in the Jacksonville University’s Gallery “MFA In the Works”.

Currently, she is a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) candidate at Jacksonville University in Florida. Her Bachelor of Arts Degree is in "Science of Art and Design of Videogames" from Atlantic University College in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2019.

There are multiple things that inspire her artistic expression. Sometimes it’s about bringing something to light, other times it’s just to get an idea out there without any deep meaning. Though, making things look good is a goal even if it only counts for Ms. Padilla’s personal taste. Often, she prefers to leave her artwork up for interpretation. All that is needed is a flash of inspiration, using pencil and paper or a drawing tablet to allow ideas to flow. Fantasy, imagination, mischief and so much more rules her inspiration!
